A Calgary-based oil and natural gas producer, Canadian Natural Resources digs, mines, and pumps crude oil, heavy oil, bitumen, synthetic crude, and natural gas across Western Canada, the North Sea, and offshore Africa. It began life in 1973 as a junior mineral exploration company called AEX Minerals before renaming itself and pivoting to energy. Today it is one of the world's largest independent oil and gas producers, its oil-sands holdings expanded by a major 2017 acquisition of Shell and Marathon Oil assets.
