Capstead Mortgage Corporation

An investment company built around a simple job: it buys and manages pools of adjustable-rate home mortgages, mostly ones backed by government-supported agencies like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae, and shares the returns with shareholders. Founded in 1985 in Dallas, it became one of the oldest publicly traded mortgage-focused real estate investment trusts in the country. In 2021 it merged with another realty trust and took on the new name Franklin BSP Realty Trust.
