A biotech company making medicines for sleep-wake disorders, Centessa develops drugs that target the brain's orexin system to help people with narcolepsy and related conditions stay awake. It was created in 2020 when ten small biotech firms merged into one company under the investment firm Medicxi, adopting a "hub-and-spoke" model. Its name comes from the Latin "centum," meaning "one hundred," a nod to combining many parts into one whole — the merger brought ten companies together as one.
