Cepheid

A maker of molecular diagnostic tests, Cepheid builds the GeneXpert system, an automated machine that quickly detects infections like tuberculosis, flu, and COVID-19 from a patient sample. Founded in 1996, the company took its name from Cepheid variable stars — pulsing "standard candles" astronomers use to measure the universe, a nod to precision. It became part of Danaher in 2016.
