Cerner Corporation
A maker of health-care software that helps hospitals, clinics, and doctors manage patient records, lab results, and daily workflows through products like its Millennium electronic health record and PowerChart. Founded in 1979 by three consultants who sketched out the idea at a picnic table in a Kansas City park, it originally went by PGI & Associates before taking the name Cerner in 1984. That name comes from the Latin word cernere, meaning "to discern"—chosen because the software helps care teams sort through mountains of medical data. It was acquired by Oracle in 2022 and now operates as Oracle Health.
