One of the largest energy companies in Central and Eastern Europe, ČEZ — short for "Czech Energy Works" — generates, distributes, and sells electricity and heat to households and businesses across the Czech Republic. Born in 1992 from the post-communist reorganization of the power sector, it operates the country's two nuclear plants, Temelín and Dukovany, alongside coal, gas, hydro, wind, and solar facilities. A fun detail: its first nuclear station, Dukovany, was built largely with machinery made in Czechoslovakia by firms like Škoda.
