Chaparral Energy Inc

An independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company, Chaparral Energy drilled and operated wells across Oklahoma's Anadarko Basin and the Permian Basin, with a specialty in squeezing extra oil from old fields through CO2-enhanced recovery. It was founded in 1988 by Mark Fischer and grew from a buyer of oil properties into an active driller. The name comes from the Spanish word "chaparro" for a scrub oak or dense low thicket, though Oklahoma isn't exactly chaparral country — and in 2022 the company rebranded as Canvas Energy.
