Chico'S Fas, Inc.
A women's apparel retailer behind the Chico's, White House Black Market, and Soma clothing brands, selling stylish separates, dresses, lingerie, and accessories to shoppers in boutiques and online. It began in 1983 as a small gift shop on Florida's Sanibel Island selling Mexican folk art — until the owner, Helene Gralnick, noticed her cotton sweaters outsold everything else and pivoted to fashion. The name comes from a friend's pet parrot named Chico. In 2024 the company was bought by private equity and folded into the KnitWell Group alongside brands like Ann Taylor, LOFT, and Talbots.
