China Construction Bank Corporation
One of China's "big four" state-owned banks, China Construction Bank lends to giant corporations and everyday people alike, offering mortgages, deposits, business loans, and wealth management from its Beijing headquarters. Founded in 1954 as the People's Construction Bank of China, it was created to funnel government money into bridges, factories, and railways under the country's five-year plans — which is exactly why "Construction" sits in its name. After policy lending moved to a separate state bank in the 1990s, it took its current name in 1996 and became a full commercial bank.
