China Unicom (hong Kong) Limited
A major Chinese telecommunications carrier and its Hong Kong-listed investment arm, providing mobile and fixed-line voice, broadband, data, and information-technology services to millions of consumers and businesses across China. The parent company, China United Network Communications, was founded in 1994 when the Chinese government deliberately created it to break up the state-run telecom monopoly and introduce competition for the first time. Its name is a mash-up of "China United Network Communications," and its Hong Kong-listed entity began trading on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in June 2000.
