Clearwire Corporation

A wireless broadband provider that built one of the first nationwide mobile internet networks in the United States using WiMAX technology, selling home internet and mobile data under its own "Clear" brand. It began in 1998 in Arlington, Texas as a spinoff from Sierra Technologies, and in 2003 wireless pioneer Craig McCaw bought the company and later joined with Sprint Nextel in 2008, merging their WiMAX businesses into a new firm that kept the Clearwire name. A fun twist: Sprint's own WiMAX project was called XOHM, but that brand was quietly folded away in favor of "Clear."
