Cloud Peak Energy Inc
A Wyoming-based coal mining company that pulled fuel out of the ground in the Powder River Basin, running three major surface mines—Antelope and Cordero Rojo in Wyoming and Spring Creek in Montana—to supply power plants across the country. It was born in 2008 as a spinoff from the global mining giant Rio Tinto and went public the next year. Its name comes from Cloud Peak, the tallest summit in the Bighorn Mountains and a familiar landmark not far from its Gillette headquarters.
