Equity Commonwealth
A real estate investment trust that owns and runs office buildings in U.S. cities like Washington, D.C., Austin, and Denver. It began in 1986 as CommonWealth REIT, then got a new name and leadership in 2014 after billionaire investor Sam Zell and his team won a boardroom fight and rebranded it Equity Commonwealth—deliberately echoing his other "Equity" companies, such as Equity Residential, to signal a fresh start.
