Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA
A Swiss luxury goods holding company that owns a portfolio of famous "maisons," including jewelers Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Buccellati, along with watchmakers like Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and IWC, and pen maker Montblanc. Founded in 1988 by South African businessman Johann Rupert, it was carved out of his father Anton Rupert's Rembrandt Group, a tobacco-and-conglomerate empire. The name "Richemont" comes from the Rupert family's ancestral estate in the Western Cape of South Africa, not the French painter.
