Companhia Brasileira De Distribuicao
A Brazilian retailer running supermarkets and hypermarkets under banners including Pão de Açúcar and Mercado Extra, selling groceries, electronics, appliances and household goods across many store formats. It began in 1948 as a small confectionery shop in São Paulo opened by Portuguese immigrant Valentim dos Santos Diniz. He named the business after Rio's Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar), which was one of the first sights he saw when his ship arrived in Brazil in 1929.
