Concho Resources Inc.

An independent oil and gas explorer that focused on drilling and production in the Permian Basin of West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, an area rich in petroleum. Founded in 2004 and led by Timothy Leach, it grew through a string of acquisitions, starting with a purchase of oil properties in its first month. Its name nods to the nearby Concho River, which Spanish explorers named after the Spanish word "concha" (shell) for the pearl-bearing freshwater mussels found along its banks.
