Corecivic, Inc.
A company that runs private prisons and government detention facilities across the US, among the largest operators of its kind. It was founded in 1983 in Nashville as the Corrections Corporation of America, born from a push to ease prison overcrowding, and rebranded to CoreCivic in 2016 to reflect a wider range of government services. A fun piece of history: its first contract, in 1984, made Hamilton County, Tennessee, one of the first places to hand a county jail to a private firm — a test case even featured on 60 Minutes.
