A maker of supercomputers, Cray builds the high-speed machines researchers, scientists, and government agencies use for heavy tasks like simulating climate and modeling physics. Founded in 1972 by engineer Seymour Cray, nicknamed the "father of supercomputing," the company's machines carried their founder's name, and its Cray-1 and Cray-2 systems became icons of the field. The Cray-2 famously stayed cool by being immersed in a liquid coolant nicknamed "artificial blood."
