It started in 1999 in Shanghai as Ctrip—a name built from the initials of its five core values: Customer, Teamwork, Responsibility, Integrity, and Partner—and was founded by four entrepreneurs known as the "Ctrip Quartet." In 2016 it bought the Edinburgh-based flight search site Skyscanner, and in 2019 it rebranded itself as Trip.com Group to reflect its global ambitions.
