A biopharmaceutical company that made medicines for serious bacterial infections, best known for the hospital antibiotic Cubicin, used to treat drug-resistant infections like MRSA. Founded in 1992 in Lexington, Massachusetts, its name was a play on its flagship drug rather than a nod to the Picasso art movement. Cubicin's chemistry traces back to a soil microbe found on Mount Ararat in Turkey, and the company was absorbed by Merck in 2015.
