A maker of cloud-based event management software, Cvent helps event planners, marketers, and hotels run in-person, virtual, and hybrid gatherings. Founded in 1999 by a lawyer who grew tired of organizing events with spreadsheets and legal pads, the name blends the letter 'C' with 'event.' The company nearly collapsed when the dot-com bust and the September 11 attacks struck soon after its founding, but survived.
