Danimer Scientific Inc
A maker of biodegradable biopolymers, Danimer Scientific feeds plant-based oils like canola to microorganisms, which ferment them into PHA plastic. Under its Nodax brand, these materials turn into compostable straws, cutlery, food packaging, and cup coatings. Founded in 2004 in Georgia, the company got a big boost in 2007 when it bought the Nodax technology from Procter & Gamble, whose scientist Isao Noda had invented it—and who later joined the firm.
