Datto Holding Corp
A maker of backup and disaster-recovery gear for small and mid-sized businesses, Datto builds products like the SIRIS and ALTO appliances that let companies keep running even if a server dies or ransomware strikes, along with tools for networking and IT management. Founded in 2007 by Austin McChord in his parents' basement in Norwalk, Connecticut, the company sells almost entirely through managed service providers—the outside IT firms that look after smaller companies' computers. Its name is a playful twist on "data," and McChord famously assembled his first backup devices by hand, using glue and even Legos.
