Koninklijke Philips NV

A Dutch health technology company that makes MRI and CT scanners, ventilators, and sleep-care devices used in hospitals and homes. It began in 1891 in Eindhoven, when engineer Gerard Philips and his banker father Frederik started making carbon-filament light bulbs, naming the firm after their family. A fun quirk: until 1912 the Netherlands had no patent law, so the young company freely studied rivals' bulb designs to build its own factory.
