A satellite television provider that beams hundreds of channels straight into homes across the United States through a small dish mounted on the roof. The company launched its first satellite service in 1994, created by Hughes Electronics, and its name is a contraction of "direct television" — programming sent directly to viewers without cable. It later became part of AT&T and was spun off as an independent company again in 2021.
