R.r. Donnelley & Sons Company

A maker of marketing, packaging, print, and supply-chain services, R.R. Donnelley & Sons (commonly called RRD) helps global brands run ad campaigns, ship products, and produce everything from catalogs to product packaging. It was founded in Chicago in 1864 by Canadian immigrant Richard Robert Donnelley, who rebuilt the business after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed his print shop. For years the company was the printer behind the iconic Sears catalog—whose 1975 edition sparked a famous nationwide controversy over a photo on page 602 that readers swore showed more of a model's boxer shorts than intended.
