An independent, employee-owned investment management firm based in Los Angeles, DoubleLine Capital manages mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and institutional strategies focused mainly on bonds and fixed income, serving everyone from individual investors to insurance companies. It was founded in 2009 by Jeffrey Gundlach and a team of senior staff shortly after he was let go from his previous firm, TCW. The name comes from a Piet Mondrian painting called "Double Line" — and also from the double yellow lines on a mountain road, a reminder to pursue returns without crossing into the oncoming lane of risk.
