Douyu runs one of China's largest game-centric live-streaming platforms, where players and entertainers broadcast gaming sessions, e-sports tournaments, talent shows, and chat in real time across desktop and mobile apps. It began life in 2014 as the live-streaming section spun off from the video-sharing site AcFun, and its name, Douyu, means "fighting fish" — a nod to the competitive Siamese fighting fish, picked to signal the scrappy spirit of China's crowded streaming market.
