Dun & Bradstreet Holdings Inc
A provider of business data and credit information, Dun & Bradstreet helps companies decide whether to lend to, partner with, or sell to other businesses by tracking millions of them worldwide. It began in 1841, when abolitionist Lewis Tappan founded a credit-reporting agency in New York after the Panic of 1837; the current firm came from the 1933 merger of rivals R.G. Dun & Company and the Bradstreet Company. Its best-known invention, the nine-digit D-U-N-S number, identifies businesses much like a Social Security number.
