Dun & Bradstreet Holdings, Inc.
One of the world's largest business data and credit-reporting firms, Dun & Bradstreet tracks how companies pay their bills and issues the familiar D-U-N-S numbers that identify businesses, which lenders and suppliers use to vet partners. It traces back to 1841, when abolitionist Lewis Tappan founded a credit-reporting agency in New York, later rebranded R.G. Dun & Company and merged with rival The Bradstreet Company in 1933 to form today's firm. Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln once worked as a credit investigator for the company.
