Akorn Inc
A maker of generic and branded prescription drugs, Akorn was best known for ophthalmology, injectable, and specialty products used in eye care. Founder Joe Yazbeck launched it by selling ophthalmic medicines out of the trunk of his car across Louisiana before formally incorporating in 1971. Its name is a phonetic play on "acorn," and the company, later based in the Chicago area, shut down in 2023.
