An Irish pharmaceutical and biotechnology company that pioneered drug-delivery technologies, including timed-release capsules and the transdermal technology behind nicotine patches marketed as ProStep. American entrepreneur Don Panoz founded it in 1969 in Dublin, starting with just four employees working out of a laboratory set up in a garden shed; it later built a major research centre in Athlone. The firm grew into one of Ireland's best-known life-sciences companies before being absorbed by Perrigo in 2013.
