It began in Manhattan in 1920 as Intravenous Products of America, a family business founded by five brothers of the Ushkow family; it became Endo Products in 1935, passed to DuPont in 1969, and emerged as independent Endo Pharmaceuticals in 1997. The name comes from the Greek word for "within."
