Energen Corp

An American energy company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, that explored for and produced oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, much of it in the Permian Basin of Texas. It began life as the Alabama Gas Corporation, a natural gas utility spun off from Southern Natural Gas in 1953 and known by the blended name "Alagasco." Renamed Energen in 1985, the company sold its utility arm in 2014 to focus on drilling, and was acquired by Diamondback Energy in 2018.
