A Boston-based company that pioneered "demand response" — paying large businesses to cut their electricity use during peak grid strain, then selling that saved capacity to utilities. Founded in 2001 by Tim Healy and David Brewster, its name is an acronym for Energy Network Operations Center. The company also sold energy intelligence software that let organizations track and trim their power use in real time, and was acquired by the Italian energy giant Enel in 2017.
