A biopharmaceutical company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that makes once-daily cholesterol-lowering tablets — Nexletol and Nexlizet — for people whose LDL ("bad") cholesterol stays high or who can't tolerate statins. It was founded twice by biochemist Roger Newton, the co-discoverer of Lipitor: he started the original Esperion in 1998, sold it to Pfizer in 2004, then bought it back and relaunched it in 2008. The name hints at the Latin for "hope," fitting a company built around giving statin-intolerant patients a new option.
