The Exone Company

A maker of industrial 3D printing machines that use a process called binder jetting, in which a liquid binder is sprayed onto layers of powder (sand, metal, or ceramic) to build complex parts and molds. Foundries use its systems to cast metal parts quickly, and manufacturers use them to print working metal pieces. The company spun off in 2005 from Extrude Hone, whose owner kept the additive-manufacturing unit and named the new business "ExOne"—combining the "Ex" of Extrude Hone with "One" to signal a fresh standalone start. It was later folded into Desktop Metal in 2021. The technology ExOne builds on was originally developed and patented at MIT in 1993.
