A pharmacy benefit manager, Express Scripts runs prescription drug plans for employers, insurers, unions, and government programs like TRICARE, and operates a large home-delivery pharmacy service. Founded in 1986 in St. Louis as a joint venture between a drugstore chain and an HMO, its name pairs "Express" for fast mail-order prescriptions and "Scripts" for prescriptions.
