Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc

A maker of the tiny semiconductor devices at the heart of modern electronics, founded in 1957 in California when eight engineers dubbed the "Traitorous Eight" left Shockley Labs and won backing from the camera company Fairchild Camera and Instrument, which lent the venture its name. Its engineers invented the planar process and the integrated circuit, helping make it the seedbed of Silicon Valley — so many alumni went on to found chip firms like Intel and AMD that the spinoffs are still called "Fairchildren."
