First Niagara Financial Group Inc.
One of the larger regional banks of the northeastern United States, First Niagara offered checking and savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages, and business loans to individuals and companies across branches in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. It began in 1870 as Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank in Lockport, New York, and took the name First Niagara in 2000, a nod to its home region, whose name comes from an Iroquoian word often translated as "thunder of waters." In 2016 the bank was acquired and its branches became KeyBank locations.
