A regional bank rooted in Michigan, Flagstar offers everyday checking and savings accounts, business banking, and a large national mortgage-lending operation. It began in 1987 as First Security Savings Bank in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and took the Flagstar name in 1996. Fun fact: its star logo is meant to symbolize the bank as customers' "North Star," with the smaller inner star representing customers at the center of its work.
