Nordstrom, Inc.
A retailer of clothing, shoes, accessories, and beauty products sold through department stores, its off-price Nordstrom Rack outlets, and online, serving shoppers across North America. The company began in 1901 as Wallin & Nordstrom, a single Seattle shoe shop opened by Swedish immigrant John Nordstrom and shoemaker Carl Wallin, whom he had met while prospecting in the Klondike Gold Rush. The founder's surname itself means "north stream" in Swedish, a nod to his Scandinavian roots.
