A pharmaceutical company best known as the maker of Botox, the wrinkle-smoothing injection, along with eye-care products and dermal fillers like Juvéderm. It was founded in 1948 by pharmacist Gavin Herbert and chemist Stanley Bly, who started in a lab above Herbert's Los Angeles drugstore with an anti-allergy nose drop; the name "Allergan" blends "allergy" and the antihistamine neoantergan. In 2020 the company was acquired by AbbVie and now operates as Allergan Aesthetics.
