Gw Pharmaceuticals Plc
A British biopharmaceutical company that turned the cannabis plant into prescription medicines. It was founded in 1998 by two doctors, Geoffrey Guy and Brian Whittle — the "GW" comes from their initials — after winning an early UK license to grow cannabis for research. Its creations include Sativex, the world's first cannabis-derived prescription drug, and Epidiolex, the first cannabis-derived medicine approved in the US. The firm later became part of Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
