An American company best known as the parent of ThinkGeek, the online retailer that sold gadgets, apparel, and collectibles for the geek community, plus the tech sites Slashdot and SourceForge. It began in 1993 as VA Research, a maker of Linux computers, and renamed itself Geeknet in 2009 after pivoting to geek culture. Its geeky roots run deep: a bidding war with Hot Topic ended with GameStop buying the company in 2015.
