Genesee & Wyoming Inc

A family of local freight railroads that hauls everything from coal and farm goods to manufactured products on short lines across North America, the UK, and Europe, linking customers to the big national rail networks. It began in 1891 as the Genesee & Wyoming Valley Railway, a tiny line built to carry rock salt out of mines in upstate New York. Fun quirk: the mine town of Retsof got its name by spelling the financier William Foster's last name backwards.
