Gitlab Inc.
A maker of software that helps teams write, test, secure, and ship code all in one place, GitLab's platform is used by software developers around the world. It began in 2011 when Ukrainian developer Dmitriy Zaporozhets built it as a hobby from a house without running water, then Dutch entrepreneur Sytse Sijbrandij teamed up with him to turn it into a business. Fun fact: the name pairs the version-control tool Git with "lab," and Git itself was nicknamed by its creator as slang for an unpleasant person. The company runs entirely without offices, with staff spread across dozens of countries.
