A maker of floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessels, Golar LNG converts old LNG carrier ships into floating plants that moor offshore, pull natural gas from undersea fields, and liquefy it onboard for transport. Its roots trace to the Gotaas-Larsen Shipping Company, founded in 1946, and the name "Golar" is a shortened form of that original firm. Its Hilli Episeyo, built from a 1975 LNG carrier, was the world's first converted FLNG vessel.
