A maker of components for implantable medical devices, Greatbatch supplied the batteries, feedthroughs, and capacitors that power pacemakers and other implants used by patients worldwide. It was founded in 1970 by Wilson Greatbatch, the engineer who invented the first practical implantable cardiac pacemaker after accidentally grabbing the wrong resistor while building a heart-sound recorder and noticing the pulse it produced mimicked a heartbeat. His lithium-iodine battery became the industry standard, and the company later grew through acquisitions before renaming itself Integer Holdings in 2016.
