Born in 2014 when Kimberly-Clark spun off its healthcare division, it took its name from the nautical rope that hoists a ship's sail, symbolizing raising healthcare standards. In 2018 it sold its surgical-and-infection business to Owens & Minor and rebranded as Avanos Medical.
